Kamloops, B.C., March 4, 2020 – The Kamloops Centre for the Arts Society is mobilizing its membership to get out the “Yes” vote for the April 4, 2020 Centre for the Arts referendum.
“Over 5,000 people have joined our society to express their support and the community feedback has been extremely positive with many sharing the belief that now is the right time for this project,” says KCA Society Chair Norm Daley. “Our focus going forward is to get members and all supporters to mark their calendars and turn support into action by voting “yes” on April 4.”
KCA Society volunteers are spreading out across the city posting Vote Yes posters at businesses, on lawns and at other locations. Volunteers will also be out knocking on doors in neighborhoods, raising awareness, answering questions and urging those in favour to vote yes on April 4 or at the advance polls on March 25 and April 1 at Heritage House on Lorne Street.
“I am incredibly proud of the KCA Society board and volunteers who, in just seven short months, have delivered a business case, built awareness and a groundswell of support for this project,” says Daley. The KCA Society has been actively engaging with the community since it first formed in June 2019. To date it has held over a dozen community engagement sessions; participated in two City of Kamloops information sessions and has had volunteers engaging and selling memberships on over 120 occasions at locations, events and performances across the city.
Business, non-profit, arts and community leaders are publicly sharing their support with letters, posts and videos on the KCA Society Facebook and Instagram pages and on our website, with endorsements coming in almost daily.
The KCA Society Get out the Yes campaign will culminate in a Brewloops Celebration Rally on March 28th at the site of the proposed Kamloops Centre for the Arts at 4th and Seymour Street from noon-4 p.m.
The Kamloops Centre for the Arts Society is a group of arts leaders and community members who have come together to participate in and promote the establishment, development and construction of a multi-use facility for the arts in Kamloops and believe that now is the right time for a centre for community.
