Dear Kamloops Centre for the Arts members,
On behalf of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts Board of Directors and volunteers, I would like to thank you for the tremendous passion, drive and commitment that you have demonstrated this year in support of a new arts centre for our community.
Unfortunately, the referendum that was scheduled for April 4 was cancelled by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a Society, we supported this decision.
The world has changed since we launched our campaign to promote the creation of a new centre for the arts. By all indications, we appeared to be very close to a successful referendum, but with so much change and uncertainty, we believe this is no longer the time to move forward with this project.
Although we have had to pause our efforts, we still greatly appreciate your support as a member. We would not have come so close to a positive outcome without your dedication and commitment to arts and culture in our city.
Given the level of community engagement realized with this project, we don’t want to lose the momentum that was built. We hope we can still connect with you to discuss the future of the project and confirm the role the Society can play during this period of recovery for the local arts community.
Around the world and close to home, arts organizations have been significantly impacted by the pandemic. With performances and shows cancelled abruptly for the foreseeable future, ticket and sponsorship revenue has decreased dramatically. Arts groups are now working overtime to adapt and find new ways to move forward with limited or no live audiences.
When the time is right, we will bring this project back to the community. In the meantime, we plan to work closely with the City and our partners in the arts and culture sector to help them get back on their feet. If you are in a financial position to support a local charity, please consider donating to your favourite arts organization during this challenging time.
Thank you again for your investment and commitment to the Kamloops Centre for the Arts.
Sincerely,
Norm Daley
